This Sunday March 7th, Tonya Mertz and Beverly Everett will present a Lenten Recital of Psalm Settings at 2:00 pm Central Time at Corpus Christi Church in Bismarck. The recital is free and you may attend in person or watch online on the Corpus Christi Church website or on the church's YouTube Channel. Tonya is professor of oboe at the University of Mary and is Principal Oboist of the Bismarck-Mandan Symphony Orchestra. One year ago they formed a duo called "Duo Inpertio," which means "to share." The recital will be about an hour in length. The first half will be Psalm settings for oboe and organ by Charles Callahan and others; the second half will be the Sonata on the 94th Psalm by Julius Reubke. This is a large-scale work for organ that is about 27 minutes long. It is powerful and represents the Psalm 94 text in a deeply expressive way. Reubke was a student of Franz Liszt. He died at the age of 24, and the Sonata is his best-known work. Please join us in person or online for this worshipful hour of live music, and please feel free to share with your family and friends.

In our culture today, we are able to avoid thinking of death. But death is the inevitable reality of living. Still, the fact that we will all die is not the problem. The problem is that we pretend that we won’t.
